Tony Elumelu has provided guidance to the government on effective strategies for managing Nigeria's electricity. He emphasized, "Despite our abundant natural resources, as a nation, we are unable to generate sufficient power."
Tony Elumelu has urged the federal government to consider selling the transmission lines to entities capable of more effective management. The billionaire and businessman linked the country's low production levels to inadequate energy supply, emphasizing the need for improvement. He appealed to President Tinubu to attract investors to develop the nation's substantial gas reserves for powering additional power stations.
Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Transnational Corporation (Transcorp), has called on the federal government to revamp the electricity industry by selling transmission lines, aiming to bolster the country's struggling economy. In a Bloomberg interview, he highlighted the industry's hindered growth due to a lack of liquidity in the electrical market and insufficient transmission infrastructure. Elumelu, who also chairs the United Bank for Africa (UBA), emphasized that inadequate energy supply contributes to low production levels in the nation. He proposed that the solution lies in President Bola Tinubu's administration attracting investors to develop the country's vast gas reserves for powering additional stations while allowing the private sector to manage the transmission lines.
